Since the school was constructed in 1960 it has been extended and reorganised in fragmentary manner. This has resulted in a confused external circulation and overcrowded and cramped internal corridors. Under the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme a priority is to design a holistic solution for the school that coordinates the disparate buildings together to form a cohesive masterplan with distinct learning zones.

A new Administration and Learning Resources Centre offers a welcoming new face to the school and reception for the wider community. This building will act as the focus for the reorganisation strategy whilst increasing perimeter security.

A new student circulation pattern has been developed that helps to generate a strong presence for each learning zone and improve orientation and way finding. The enhancement of the central open space will deliver a more relaxed and usable green courtyard at the heart of the school.

The improved ecology on site and the integration of sustainability measures including green roofs, consumption displays and renewable energy generation into the fabric of the building will provide new teaching resources.
